Insurance Coverage

Does Insurance Cover Massage Therapy?

Many clients ask about massage therapy insurance coverage before booking. The answer depends on your specific plan and why you’re seeking treatment. At Relax & Revive, we’re happy to help you understand your options.

Massage therapy insurance coverage is most common when a documented medical need drives treatment — for example, post-surgical recovery, chronic pain management, or oncology-related care. In these cases, some insurance plans may reimburse part or all of your session cost. This includes certain PPO, auto injury, and workers’ compensation policies.

Relax & Revive is an in-network provider with American Specialty Health, one of the largest massage therapy benefit networks in the country. If your health insurance plan includes ASH massage therapy benefits, your sessions may be covered. Depending on your plan, this could mean no out-of-pocket cost beyond a copay.

Before booking, contact your insurance provider directly and ask:

  • Does my plan include massage therapy insurance coverage under my current benefits?
  • Is a physician’s referral or prescription required?
  • Are there session limits or a maximum reimbursable amount?
  • Do I need a superbill or itemized receipt to submit a claim?

Not sure whether your treatment qualifies for massage therapy insurance coverage? Contact Us before booking. We can help you understand what documentation you’d need and whether your treatment goals — like Oncology Massage or Manual Lymphatic Drainage – commonly qualify.

No problem. You can still book as a self-pay client. We provide a detailed receipt with service codes for FSA/HSA reimbursement or out-of-network insurance submission, especially for medically-oriented services like lymphatic drainage or oncology massage tied to a documented need.

After your session, we’re happy to provide a detailed receipt, called a superbill, that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. We don’t bill insurance directly, but this documentation makes the reimbursement process straightforward on your end.

  • Whether your specific plan includes massage therapy benefits at all
  • Whether the service is being used for a documented medical reason, like post-surgical recovery, injury, or a chronic condition, versus general wellness
  • Visit limits per year and any required documentation

Bring your insurance card to your first visit, or give us a call ahead of time. We’re happy to help you figure out what’s covered before you commit to a package.
